Not-so-lazy Sunday -Wörthsee triathlon

A month ago, my friend Julia took it upon herself to run a triathlon (as you do...). It was a rather impromptu decision, so she only had three weeks to train for it. She didn't sign up for the olympic distances, that would've just been too crazy! But she would be swimming 600m, biking 20km and running 6km, so still respectable distances especially in 33 degrees and in succession of one another.

After returning from my exhausting day with the boisterous boys, Julia's sister Sarah and I spent a couple of hours drawing "supporter" signs along with the flower crown making

Obviously there is something wrong with the arrangement of the letters. To give you an idea of how indeliberately entertaining Sarah can be she took this photo and when I showed it to her her only response was "ohhhh that's nice!".

Last Sunday was D-day and we headed to the Wörthsee where the triathlon was being held.

At around 9:30 am, just as the sun was starting to really sting, the "folk-triathlon": that Julia would be attempting began. Thankfully (or maybe cruelly), she got to start with the swim in the lake...

We were a support crew of five and managed to catch/yell at her at every change.

To be honest the lull phases in between were a bit boring since you just sit and wait, but we ended up cheering on a bunch of randoms, so at least we made their day.

Although at the finish line was bearable...

After just 1:50 hr Julia also made it!

Her brother Benni was kind enough to accompany her for the last 600m.

I gotta say, when I discovered the cake buffet that was set up for the triathletes I was tempted to go do my own little swim, bike, run.

Of course there was some post-triathlon analysis...

Before heading to the lake for a well deserved (for Julia anyway) snooze. We headed to the side of the lake that Julia's Mama lives on since I thought the plan was for all of us to celebrate Julia's achievement together. For some reason that plan never really eventuated and we just ended up chilling by the lake.

Unfortunately it wasn't quite this calming. More like this:

Not exactly relaxing compared to New Zealand standards...Ah well it was nice to be close to the water, before heading back into the city to meet the singing surfer!

Yours truly,
