Monkey business

Since Innsbruck turned out to be rather boring, we decided to stay close to home the following day and take a stroll through the familiar, closest small-town - Kitzbuehel.

Kitzbuehel or "Kitz" as the locals refer to it, has a reputation for being a "Schikeria"-magnet. Many a dandy and his arm-candy can be found gallivanting about in this town. The shops reflect this clientele and aren't even really worth entering, since no item of clothing can be found for under 300 Euros…

However, what Kitz is brilliant for, is the people-watching and the window-shopping. A new department store has recently opened its doors for more window-shopping pleasure, it's called 'Kitz Galleria' - naturally. Most of the shops are too glitzy for me, but this delicatessen caught my attention.

Actually, it was these legs of ham hanging on one side of the department store's elevator that made me wonder whether this was some wacky art installation or in fact a deli.

I must return here in the Winter and stock up on some delicacies!

In the afternoon, I got cabin fever again and hustled everyone into another hiking adventure. The following week was the week of the "Bring Your Bottle"-Party for our client New Zealand Wine, which had been my first independent project to organise. Of course I couldn't then walk past those lush Austrian ferns without nicking a few for decorative purposes for the party! But first, they served another purpose…

…as feathers for playing "bush-Indian"!

Ah yes, I do crack myself up…

After I'd entertained myself for this stretch of the hike, we were very surprised to stumble upon a "chimpanzee-trail" from the Jane Goodall Institute. Although it seems very random for a chimpanzee-trail to be in the middle of the Austrian mountains, Jane Goodall's mission, apart from saving chimpanzees and other endangered species is to…

"…encourage people to do their part to make the world a better place for people, animals, and the environment we all share."

Which of course also makes sense in the Austrian mountains! The trail has numerous stations and encourages you to really listen, look, smell and feel the environment and its inhabitants. As well as offering this cute little photo opportunity.

What's even cuter though? Granddad being a chimp!

After the chimps, we met a couple of waddlers.

Who led us to their very respectable home!

Oma was waiting for us with coffee and cake, so unfortunately we couldn't stay. Not even for a quick Schnapps in the very dainty "outhouse"!

On the way down, it was Mama's turn to play "bush-Indian" as I was too busy taking photos. She enjoyed it too!

And that was our mini-break in Austria. Now just one more post to go before the Oktoberfest 2014 round-up!

Yours truly,
