Arriving in Lago di Garda - World's Best Pizza in Bardolino

As I am on holiday with the Mr. in Croatia, I finally managed to work through the photos of our last mini-break to Lago di Garda, Italy.

The Mr. recently left me for six and a half weeks to travel through South America. Since I wasn't able to join, I only let him leave on the grounds that we would have a mini-break somewhere upon his return.

Lago di Garda lies a mere three hours drive from Munich and is therefore a very popular tourist destination for Bavarians. Thus, it is wise to go pre-season - so you have these kinds of views all to yourself…

Since he has been there quite a few times before, the Mr. organised everything. From where we would have our first 'Spritz', where we would eat, as well as where we would sleep, just a few minutes out of the small town of Bardolino.

Bardolino lies directly on the lake and has a small docking-harbour. Just above this harbour is where we had our first 'Aperol Spritz'.

Aperol is an Italian aperitif similar to Campari, but not quite so bitter, and created to be consumed with white wine or bubbly.

A colourful, refreshing combination, designed to get your appetite into gear. And get you tipsy pretty quickly!

To ensure all the tourists don't get too drunk too quickly, Cafe Italia serves baskets of Italian goodies along with your Spritz.

Making it the perfect place in Bardolino to settle in for the afternoon, and adapt to la dolce vita!

Before you get too tipsy - and not even the munching of the Italian treats sustains you - you may want to saunter along the lakeside…

Before making your way to the world's pizza champion, tucked away in this modest little corner.

The owner of 'La Conchiglia' has managed to nab quite a few awards for his place. Despite this high ranking, the feel of the place remains that of a typical, village pizzeria. Tablecloths from twenty years ago, and grissini served in plastic packets. The best part however is, that the boss himself not only still makes the pizza, but even delivers it to you.

I must admit, for our taste the "world's best pizza" could've done with a smidgen longer in  the oven. However, the combination of roughly cut potatoes, garlic and gorgonzola on pizza, is a world-winning combination worth experiencing. A world-winning welcome to our time at Lago di Garda.

More about that soon!

Your truly,
