Summer in Bavaria - Markets & Biergarten

The past few weeks, which have merged into months, have been so beautifully hot and eventful, that once again the blog had to take a backseat. A not so great event being, that I managed to break my camera…Thankfully there are plenty of pictures to post in the meantime!

As a summer dream appears to be coming to an end in Munich, it would seem high time, I gave this bloglet a bit of an update and once again, start at the beginning.

The beginning of summer, which to be honest, did not start out too promising weather-wise, but that didn't stop my aunty and me from bearing the still nippy morning breeze and gathering some produce from the local market one Saturday morning…

Fresh Rhubarb…

…a plethora of oranges, limes and grapefruit...

…some funky broccoli…

…and of course the inedible, but ever so beautiful flowers.

Blue ones...

…pink ones…

…and red ones.

If fruit, veg or flowers aren't your thing, you're probably into these kinds of stalls, which sell all sorts of bits and bobs from toilet brushes to chopping boards.

The town of Pfaffenhofen, where we visited the market isn't huge, but it's always nice to get a bit of an overview.

This little guy was also making his way around town.

Of course another crucial event which signifies the beginning of a Bavarian summer, is the opening of Biergarten-season.

The chestnuts - which are an essential element for an outdoor area to classify as a Biergarten - are in full bloom and bursting with green!

So Bavarian specialities like the 'Obatzda' cheese, with soft pretzels…

…pork knuckles with bread and potato dumplings…

…'Kaspressknoedel' (literally "pressed cheese dumplings")…

…Bavarian meatballs…

…and Schnitzel, can be enjoyed in the cool beneath the chestnuts' canopy.

Due to my camera breaking I wasn't able to capture much of the glorious German summer, but plenty of sunny pictures from the four-day long Croation vacation with the Mr. coming up next time!

Yours truly,
